Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer is the latest artist to receive The Complete Works treatment by publisher Taschen, a series of high quality, jumbo sized art books showcasing prominent figures in art history. Some previous painters featured include Velázquez, Klimt, Caravaggio and Hieronymus Bosch.
One of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, Vermeer is renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work. This book collects the complete catalog of the artist’s work in one beautifully printed monograph, with exquisitely reproduced pieces on full page spreads, as well as enlarged versions for close-up studies.
(above right) This painting, titled “The Little Street” always remind me of another by American artist Norman Rockwell.
(above left) The Astronomer, which I saw in person at the Louvre some years back. The sublime quality of the painting had me staring at it for the longest time.
(above & below) The volume comes in a gorgeously designed, heavy duty cardboard carrying case that protects the book during shipping and is perfect for storage as well.
Just like the rest of Taschen’s The Complete Works series ( Velázquez, Klimt, Caravaggio and Hieronymus Bosch ), this is an art book of exceptional quality, with stunning reproductions printed on hi-grade paper perfect for hours upon hours of study and appreciation. My highest recommendations.
A big word of thanks to Julie from Taschen for providing me with this copy of the book for review.
