Patlabor The Movie 2 Art Book

From the same series as the previously reviewed Patlabor TV art book, “Patlabor The Movie 2 : Perfect Establishment Data” compiles a hearty collection of mecha design/data sheets for the numerous Labors featured in this film, directed by Mamoru Oshii.

(above) The Hannibal, adopted by the UN for peacekeeping missions. It also appears in several episodes of the Patlabor TV series. If Labors are your thing, I highly recommend The Labor Industry art book, which charts every Labor that appeared in the TV series and films, with beautiful colored illustrations.

(below) Incredibly intricate and detailed drawings of the inner workings of the Ingram; I believe these drawings are all done without the help of any computer software.

What can I say ? I love both the TV series and this film so much it’s hard for me not to recommend this book.

too bad it seems like there isn’t too much of the work the late Satoshi Kon put into the film, but then again, i guess we have the film for that.

Patlabor 2 looks fantastic on on blu-ray, probably my favourite Oshii film.

it’s definitely up there as one of his best. i still can’t get away from how much i enjoy his first Ghost In The Shell film, though. Patlabor 2 almost feels like the prototype for that movie, though.

Well, at least they are releasing Tokyo Godfathers on blu-ray soon, which is a small consolation. ;]

I can’t say I like GITS or Patlabor 2 more than one or the other – both are such amazing films, though the former is certainly more action driven.
