Kingdom of Dreams & Madness – Ghibli Studio Documentary

Posted By blauereiter der on July 12th, 2013

It’s shaping up to be quite the bumper year for fans of Ghibli Studio, with Miyazaki Hayao’s Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) releasing in about a week’s time (July 20th) and Isao Takahata’s Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya) later in the fall.

But there’s more ! A documentary on Ghibli Studio called 夢と狂気の王国 Yume To Kyoki No Oukoku (Kingdom of Dreams & Madness) has also been slated for a fall release. It will focus on directors Miyazaki Hayao, Isao Takahata and producer Toshi Suzuki, following them and the studio Ghibli staff as they work on the above 2 films. The documentary will be directed by Mami Sunada.

Ghibli Studio was one of the first places I went to while studying/working in Tokyo many years ago. I didn’t get to enter the studio, but just to be close to the place where so many wondrous films have been created was magical enough.

For a taste of life inside Ghibli Studio, watch this illuminating Spirited Away documentary (2 parts) :

I await the 2 films and documentary with much excitement.

Haven’t you forgotten something? :-)

Biggest news today… the Kaguya Hime teaser! Hope you saw it?

I wonder if we’ll be ever getting this documentary internationally…

i,’m looking forward to seeing both films and I’m particularly exited about the documentary. I have a question… do you think there’s a possibility for random people to go to studio ghibli and see miyazaki. it’s really my dream to meet him one day and talk to him. so when I go to japan I plan on going to koganei first thing… I am going to do anything I can to get inside there. hehehhh

eliza – I think it’s going to be difficult, Miyazaki-san is probably too busy in his work to meet fans, as much as he would like to I think.

I think the Ghibli Museum would be a better place for us fans to visit and pay tribute to the wonderful animation they create :]
