AWAKEN AKIRA is a short video created by Ash Thorp and Zaoeyo as a tribute to Otomo Katsuhiro’s original groundbreaking anime film. The duo re-creates some of the most iconic and memorable scenes from the film, beautifully realized in CG. Check it out below –

Ash Thorp is also the creative force behind the Ghost In The Shell tribute video Project 2501, and was himself part of the concept art team for the 2017 live-action remake.

I interviewed him on my blog back in 2014 as he talked about his work on motion graphics for films.

AWAKEN AKIRA is a great proof of concept for a potential live-action remake, and I think we’ve established the fact that there are more than enough talented artists out there to do justice to Otomo’s work, at least for the quality of the visuals. Now the adaptation of the story and characters are an entirely different matter…
